Applications are invited for the position of the Research Ethics Committee Members based at La Mercy.  The successful applicants will be reporting to the Head of Research   Background:  The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is an Entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). Our mandate is to conduct world class research into skills development, and provincial strategic economic sectors; and to strategically lead in innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy. The Institution is looking for experienced and suitably qualified South African citizens to fulfil this responsibility. Preference will be given to applicants residing in Kwa Zulu Natal.   Purpose of the job:                 Through it’s Research and Development Unit the MKI seeks to conduct world class research. To this end it is critical that superior standards of research processes are maintained. The MKI Research Ethics Committee will be responsible for reviewing proposals and terms of references (TOR’s) that will address research ethical matters. Minimum Requirements:         Applicants must have a completed a PhD in Science/ Social Science/ Public Policy/ IT and other related fields. Five (5) years’ experience in conducting and reviewing research. Five (5) years’ experience in research ethics. Must have an impressive publication record (minimum of 5 peer reviewed journal articles). A Valid driver’s license & own transport. Remuneration:                        DPSA Level 13 (1) Duration:                                24 months contract Core competencies:               Excellent writing and communication skills. General professionalism in all areas. Responsibilities:                    The Moses Kotane Research Ethics Committee (REC) will be responsible for the following:
  • Ensure that the rights of research participants are always protected;
  • Ensure that the proposals are treated with respect and confidentiality;
  • Conduct a thorough review of the research Terms of References (ToRs; Conduct ethics review in a wholly independent and impartial manner without any conflicts of interest and with a focus clearly on the ethics of research proposals;
  • Where the REC feels that it does not have the expertise to review a proposal, it should seek the help of independent bodies or external members. RECs should ensure that they fulfil their role and responsibilities with integrity and record their decisions and feedback in a transparent manner.
  Correspondence:  Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo competency testing and verification processes. Minimum Requirements:  A Master’s Degree in Information Technology/ Innovation from an accredited Tertiary Institution at NQF Level 9; 5 years executive management experience; Thorough understanding of 4IR and digital strategies of the country; Working knowledge of data management across the research lifecycle, including creating, processing, analysis, preservation, access, and reuse of research data; Practical knowledge of Technology Frameworks, Legislation and Policies. It also coordinates interaction between line functions or sector departments established or envisaged provincial government training institutions, tertiary institutions, and other external service providers. The institution is looking for the experienced and qualifying individuals to fulfil this new role.   The Program is a partnership initiative with Municipalities to promote the much-needed Digital Skilling in their respective communities. To this end the opportunities are extended to Unemployed South African Youth (between the ages of 18-35) who reside or come from the following municipalities:  UKhahlamba, Jozini, Uphongolo, Inkosi Langalibalele and Umdoni. Successful candidates will be expected to enter a 24-month contract and will receive a monthly stipend. Requirements:         A Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or in Computer Sciences (NQF 7) obtained from an Accredited Tertiary Institution. Applicants must have a valid Driver’s License and be able to drive. Duties:                          Promote the Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the local government level and at Start-Ups events. Develop Sector Database of local entrepreneurs. Collect Sector Information from Municipality, Clusters and Departments, Assist the community to obtain knowledge and information that enables them to implement their innovation projects, Create calendar of events on sectors: Sector workshops, Viewings of TedTalks, YouTube, Free Online Education, Trainings and Courses etc, and Quarterly Lab/Accelerator Program for local innovators and entrepreneurs..   BACKGROUND:        The Moses Kotane Institute is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), with a mandate to conduct world class research into training, skills development, and provincial strategies economic sections; to strategically lead innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy.   INVITATION:              The Moses Kotane Institute as an implementing agency of EDTEA has been mandated to establish three (3) licenced medical cannabis cultivation sites in rural KwaZulu Natal. Applications are invited from registered legal entities representing
  • women groups (1 site to be developed)
  • youth groups (1 site to be developed)
  • business groups (1 site to be developed)
  The Moses Kotane Institute will be responsible for the construction of the site and licensing of the sites which are to be handed over to operating entities upon licensing. Post licensing the cultivation sites will be operated/ managed by the beneficiaries as going concerns. Support includes development of the new cannabis sites, licencing and cannabis specific training in cultivation and South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) Legal Compliance. The Moses Kotane Institute will also provide where necessary both investment readiness training and business incubation support. Applications must be from registered entities in KwaZulu-Natal.   REQUIREMENTS:      Applicants are required to submit a detailed organisation profile, CIPC registration documents, Certified ID Copies of Members of the legal entities, Proof of Residence for members. Certification should not be older than 3 months.                                     Land requirements/ specifications- (Access to Land is a Prerequisite)                                     The land/site identified for the project must be publicly owned (i.e. owned by community, CPA, government, or traditional authority). It must preferably be a minimum of 1 hectare, fairly levelled, secluded from access to the public (particularly children and schools) must have ready access to water and electricity. Proof of Land ownership/Lease or Permission to Occupy, full address and GPS coordinates and images are to be submitted with the applications. Additional compulsory requirement: The site location should be in form of an accessible google map link, for ease of location and assessment.   BACKGROUND:        The Moses Kotane Institute is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), with a mandate to conduct world class research into training, skills development, and provincial strategies economic sections; to strategically lead innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy.   INVITATION:  The Moses Kotane Institute as an implementing agency of EDTEA has been mandated to establish three (3) licenced medical cannabis cultivation sites in rural KwaZulu Natal. Applications are invited from registered legal entities representing
  • women groups (1 site to be developed)
  • youth groups (1 site to be developed)
  • business groups (1 site to be developed)
  The Moses Kotane Institute will be responsible for the construction of the site and licensing of the sites which are to be handed over to operating entities upon licensing. Post licensing the cultivation sites will be operated/ managed by the beneficiaries as going concerns. Support includes development of the new cannabis sites, licencing and cannabis specific training in cultivation and South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) Legal Compliance. The Moses Kotane Institute will also provide where necessary both investment readiness training and business incubation support. Applications must be from registered entities in KwaZulu-Natal.   REQUIREMENTS:      Applicants are required to submit a detailed organisation profile, CIPC registration documents, Certified ID Copies of Members of the legal entities, Proof of Residence for members. Certification should not be older than 3 months.                                     Land requirements/ specifications- (Access to Land is a Prerequisite)                                     The land/site identified for the project must be publicly owned (i.e. owned by community, CPA, government, or traditional authority). It must preferably be a minimum of 1 hectare, fairly levelled, secluded from access to the public (particularly children and schools) must have ready access to water and electricity. Proof of Land ownership/Lease or Permission to Occupy, full address and GPS coordinates and images are to be submitted with the applications.   CORRESPONDENCE: Applications must be submitted to mkicannads@moseskotane.com  by no later than 7 December 2020, not later than 11 a.m. Applications not compliant with the prescripts herein, will not be considered. It also coordinates interaction between line functions or sector departments established or envisaged, provincial government training institutions, tertiary institutions and other external service providers. The Institute seeks to appoint Shop Assessors to assist with the gathering of data from selected KZN based Rural and Township shops for the provincial revitalisation program. Applicants are invited from Unemployed South African Youth (between the ages of 18-35) who reside in the following Districts: Amajuba, Harry Gwala, Ugu, iLembe, King Cetshwayo, Umzinyathi, Uthukela, Zululand, EThekwini, Umkhanyakude and Umgungundlovu Minimum Requirements:   A Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Accounting. A Bachelor’s Degree in other related fields would also be considered. Qualifications must be from an Accredited Tertiary Institution. The applicant must have a Valid Driver’s (not less than 3 years old) and be able to drive. Applicants must be fluent isiZulu and English. Duration:                      +/-06 Months Remuneration:            R350.00 per day Requirements & Competencies: Excellent written and spoken English with a focus on Data Analysis. The institution seeks to appoint the qualifying individuals to fulfil the data collection role for the KZN Rural Horse-Riding Survey. To this end the opportunities are extended to Unemployed South African Youth (between the ages of 18-35) who reside or come from the following Districts: Amajuba, Harry Gwala, Ugu, ILembe, King Cetshwayo, Umzinyathi, Uthukela, Zululand, Umkhanyakude and Umgungundlovu. Requirements:        Grade 12/Matric certificate,                                 Must reside in KZN ;

                                A valid Driver’s License (obtained no less than 3 years ago), will be an added advantage;

                                Must be able to read, write and interpret English instruction,

                                Be computer literate and be able to use electronic gadgets such as tablets and smart phones. Must own a smart phone.

 Duties:                   Carry out the data collection process in accordance with all reasonable instructions given by the MKI (i.e. sampling, availing data collection device). Duration:                The duration of the actual data collection process is envisaged to take a maximum of 5 days depending on the targeted population per district, starting from the last week of November 2020. The institution is looking for the experienced and qualifying individuals to fulfil this new role. The Program is a partnership initiative with Municipalities to promote the much-needed Digital Skilling in their respective communities. To this end the opportunities are extended to Unemployed South African Youth (between the ages of 18-35) who reside or come from the following municipalities: Kokstad, UKhahlamba, Jozini, Uphongolo, Inkosi Langalibalele and Umdoni. Successful candidates will be expected to enter a 24-month contract and will receive a monthly stipend.
