Technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics may destroy or disrupt many jobs in the services sector and in labor-intensive industries (Balliester & Elsheikhi, 2018). The feared job losses have materialized in some industries. Evidence shows that there is a dire need for countries to be geared for a rapidly changing environment or risk stagnating or falling behind their peers. In theory, new technological paradigms should allow countries like South Africa to leapfrog some of the older established economies, in practice it would take an immense effort of public sector coordination, education and private sector mobilisation to get the enabling factors in place. By all analyses South Africa is in the unenviable position of having low technological capability, inadequate and stagnating digital readiness and economic complexity that is falling. About the Moses Kotane Institute Journal The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) Journal is a research journal hosted by MKI. MKI is an entity of the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). It is mandated to conduct world-class research into training, skills development, and provincial strategic economic sectors; and to strategically lead in innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy. The MKI Journal is a new multidisciplinary and open-access journal committed to publishing theoretical and empirical economic research that focuses on six sectors namely – Information Communication Technology (ICT), Maritime and Oceans Economy, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Rural and Township Economy, and Green economy. The MKI Journal is a professional and refereed journal that invites submissions of unpublished material in the specified fields. As a transdisciplinary journal that reflects both theoretical and practical perspectives, it seeks to stimulate debate on a wide range of topics. The MKI Journal is a platform for intellectual dialogue and information sharing for the purpose of boosting provincial and national economy. 2. Qualification and requirements of candidates The key qualities sought for the editorial board positions are: • scholarship and recognised expertise in one or more of the journal’s six focus areas, • affiliation to a higher education and/or research institution, and • established networks in particular fields for soliciting manuscripts and recruiting reviewers. 3. Its mandate is to conduct world class research into training, skills development, and provincial strategic economic sectors; and to strategically lead on innovation and maritime coordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of provincial economy. Among the interventions in the maritime sector is the Boatbuilding Capacity Development Programme (BCDP). The rationale for delivering the BCDP is to contribute towards a thriving boatbuilding sector in KZN.  The objectives of the BCDP are: ·         Capacitate experienced boatbuilders who have no formal qualification to obtain certification through recognition of prior learning and train them to become facilitators, assessors and moderators – Recognition of Prior Learning ·         Provide practical training to unemployed young people who are interested in working in the boatbuilding sector – Practical Training Requirements for Practical Training candidates: ·         Minimum qualification at NQF Level 02 (Standard 08), matric preferably. ·         A citizen of KwaZulu-Natal province.
  • Must be available for the entire duration of six (6) months.
  • Must pass the compulsory written examination.
