Background:  The Moses Kotane Institute is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), with a mandate to conduct world class research into training, skills development, and provincial strategies economic sections; to strategically lead in innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy. It also coordinates interaction between line functions or sector departments established or envisaged provincial government training institutions, tertiary institutions, and other external service providers. The institution is looking for the experienced and qualifying individuals to fulfill this new role. In view of the high rate of unemployed graduates within the KwaZulu-Natal Province, applications are invited from interested applicants who are South African Citizens residing in KwaZulu-Natal in the areas specified below Requirements: A Diploma or Degree in Information Technology and a valid driver’s license. Applicants must be persons who are between the ages of 18-35 and unemployed residing in the following municipalities: Kokstad, KwaMbonambi, Mandeni, Bergville, eThekwini and Mooi River. Duration: 24-month contract, performance-based contract Duties: Promote the Innovation at the local government level and at Start-Ups events. Develop Sector Database of local entrepreneurs. Collect Sector Information from Municipality, Clusters and Departments, Assist the community to obtain knowledge and information that enables them to implement their innovation projects, Create calendar of events on sectors: Sector workshops, Viewings of TedTalks, YouTube, Free Online Education, Trainings and Courses etc, and Quarterly Lab/Accelerator Program for local innovators and entrepreneurs. Requirements:  BCom Degree in Accounting (NQF Level 7) Experience:       3 years’ relevant experience and expertise in accounts processing within the Finance Unit. Assist the Finance Specialist in high- level monitoring of controls including a review of the reconciliation between the general ledger and the payroll and exception reports. Processing of invoices in accordance with levels of authority and allocate expenditure to correct supplier and general ledger account on a daily basis. Assist the finance unit with filing. MKI is calling for entries for the 2020 Moses Kotane Institute Maritime Accelerator. The MKI Maritime Accelerator is aimed at maritime start-ups that are majority-owned by women operating in KwaZulu-Natal with the possibility of scaling globally. Programme Information Twenty-five (25) entrepreneurs will be chosen for this 24-months programme designed to support participants with the business modelling and growth strategy required to scale their enterprises, become investment ready and develop entrepreneurial leadership. The programme will cover: • Marketing and Branding • Systems Thinking Framework • Access to Finance • Access to Markets • Growth Strategy • Financing for scale • Pitch training   Programme Eligibility Criteria Businesses must be: • Maritime Sector; • In operation for less than three years; • Revenue generating (even if not yet profitable); • Scalable and innovative ventures; • Preference to be given to ventures majority (50% +1) owned or led by ambitious and committed women entrepreneurs (preference); and • seeking investment or funding to grow.
