Among the interventions in the maritime sector is the Boatbuilding Capacity Development Programme (BCDP). The rationale for delivering the BCDP is to contribute towards a thriving boatbuilding sector in KZN. The objectives of the BCDP are:
· Capacitate experienced boatbuilders who have no formal qualification to obtain certification through recognition of prior learning and train them to become facilitators, assessors and moderators – Recognition of Prior Learning
· Provide practical training to unemployed young people who are interested in working in the boatbuilding sector – Practical Training
Requirements for Practical Training candidates:
· Minimum qualification at NQF Level 02 (Standard 08), matric preferably.
· A citizen of KwaZulu-Natal province.

Background: The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). Its mandate is to provide internationally recognised quality research that drives KZN economic development and innovation. MKI provides timely and accurate research to support the attainment of radically transformed, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in partnership with public and private sector.
Study Purpose: MKI invites applications from qualified applicants who will collect data on skills audit in KZN. The purpose of this study is to understand the skills status quo in KZN. It seeks to enable decision makers, policy makers, investors and other stakeholders to have a clear sense of the available skills, skills in high demand, skills shortages, skills that are in excess, and skills that are redundant. This will enable the decision makers to appropriately design their skills development interventions while informing the education and training sector about the curriculum, labour market demand and supply, and the provincial nuances with respect to skills in the various localities that are urban, peri-urban and rural.

Districts Managers: Skills Audit Research

Skills: Applicants should: (1) be fluent in English and Zulu, (2) be computer literate and be able to use electronic devices such as tablets and smart phones, (3) be willing to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, (4) be honest, reliable, and have integrity, (5) have good interviewing skills, (6) have good interpersonal skills, (7) have good reading, writing and verbal communication skills, and (8) have good understanding of their respective municipality areas.
Duration: The duration of the actual data collection process is envisaged to take three months. The specific details (dates, places, etc) will be communicated with the data collectors when a data collection tool has been secured and all the internal arrangements are in place.
Responsibilities: Data Collectors
(1) participate in the sampling process to select respondents in the selected survey areas, (2) collect data from the selected respondents and enter the collected data into the data collection tool, (3) submit the collected data in the required format to field Local Municipality Supervisors.
Local Municipality Supervisors
(1) Lead the team of the local municipality data collectors, (2) Manage the data collection process in all the wards (3) Manage and monitor all data collection logistics for the local municipality, (4) Report daily progress to the District Manager.
District Managers
(1) Lead the team of the local municipality supervisors, (2) Manage the data collection project for the whole team, (3) Manage and monitor all data collection logistics for the district, (4) Report daily progress to MKI
