Applications are invited for the position of the Research Maritime Development Practitioner based at La Mercy.  The successful applicant will be reporting to the Maritime Manager.   Background:    The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizens to fill the position of a Maritime Development Practitioner. The Position will be responsible for implementation of Maritime Research and Development Programmes. Minimum Requirements:         Applicants must have a valid Honor’s degree in Maritime Studies or related NQF level 8 qualification from an accredited tertiary institution; Minimum 3 years experience in the maritime field or maritime research and/ enterprise development; A Valid driver’s license. A Master’s Degree would be an added advantage Core competencies:                   Knowledge of maritime concepts, practices, and procedures, Good co-ordination and project management skills, Ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solve; Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills, Proactive; Planning & Organising Skills. Able to read and interpret written information, especially legislation and Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and/or Project). Responsibilities:                     Quality Control, Data Management and Project reporting; Undertake Enterprise Development Research Projects; Assist with writing research proposals for project approval; Assist in the processes and requirements to obtain and/or maintain programme accreditation with the relevant quality assurance bodies; Monitor the project budget and report any deviations to the unit Manager. The Institute is looking for two external members of the Moses Kotane Institute’s Research Ethics Committee.  

Background:   The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) conducts business/action research that responds to the needs of the provincial economy. We are currently seeking for two experienced professionals to form part of the Research Ethics Committee. Minimum Requirements:         A doctoral qualification (we will take one with social science and another with applied science). Minimum of 3 years in serving as an Ethics Committee member for research purposes in tertiary institutions in KwaZulu-Natal. Have time available to attend meetings as and when required. Core competencies:               Assessment skills, including the ability to analyse uncertainty. Process skills including the ability to facilitate, communicate and document. Interpersonal skills including the ability to listen and ask questions and foster effective communication amongst parties. In addition, have knowledge competencies including moral reasoning, understanding of policies and procedures, understand cultural dynamics and adhere to professional codes of ethics.  Role of the Committee:           To protect potential participants in research considering risks and benefits for the community in which research is carried out. Promote high ethical standards including respecting the dignity, rights, safety and well being of participants. The MKI Research Ethics Committee will be responsible for reviewing proposals and terms of references (TOR’s) that will address research ethical matters. Minimum Requirements:         Applicants must have a completed a PhD in Science/ Social Science/ Public Policy/ IT and other related fields.   BACKGROUND:        The Moses Kotane Institute is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), with a mandate to conduct world class research into training, skills development, and provincial strategies economic sections; to strategically lead innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy.   INVITATION:              The Moses Kotane Institute as an implementing agency of EDTEA has been mandated to establish three (3) licenced medical cannabis cultivation sites in rural KwaZulu Natal. Applications are invited from registered legal entities representing
  • women groups (1 site to be developed)
  • youth groups (1 site to be developed)
  • business groups (1 site to be developed)
  The Moses Kotane Institute will be responsible for the construction of the site and licensing of the sites which are to be handed over to operating entities upon licensing. Post licensing the cultivation sites will be operated/ managed by the beneficiaries as going concerns. Support includes development of the new cannabis sites, licencing and cannabis specific training in cultivation and South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) Legal Compliance. The Moses Kotane Institute will also provide where necessary both investment readiness training and business incubation support. Applications must be from registered entities in KwaZulu-Natal.   REQUIREMENTS:      Applicants are required to submit a detailed organisation profile, CIPC registration documents, Certified ID Copies of Members of the legal entities, Proof of Residence for members.   BACKGROUND:        The Moses Kotane Institute is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), with a mandate to conduct world class research into training, skills development, and provincial strategies economic sections; to strategically lead innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy.   INVITATION:  The Moses Kotane Institute as an implementing agency of EDTEA has been mandated to establish three (3) licenced medical cannabis cultivation sites in rural KwaZulu Natal. Applications are invited from registered legal entities representing
  • women groups (1 site to be developed)
  • youth groups (1 site to be developed)
  • business groups (1 site to be developed)
  The Moses Kotane Institute will be responsible for the construction of the site and licensing of the sites which are to be handed over to operating entities upon licensing. Post licensing the cultivation sites will be operated/ managed by the beneficiaries as going concerns. Support includes development of the new cannabis sites, licencing and cannabis specific training in cultivation and South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) Legal Compliance. The Moses Kotane Institute will also provide where necessary both investment readiness training and business incubation support. Applications must be from registered entities in KwaZulu-Natal.   REQUIREMENTS:      Applicants are required to submit a detailed organisation profile, CIPC registration documents, Certified ID Copies of Members of the legal entities, Proof of Residence for members. Certification should not be older than 3 months.                                     Land requirements/ specifications- (Access to Land is a Prerequisite)                                     The land/site identified for the project must be publicly owned (i.e. owned by community, CPA, government, or traditional authority). It must preferably be a minimum of 1 hectare, fairly levelled, secluded from access to the public (particularly children and schools) must have ready access to water and electricity. The Institute seeks to appoint Shop Assessors to assist with the gathering of data from selected KZN based Rural and Township shops for the provincial revitalisation program. Applicants are invited from Unemployed South African Youth (between the ages of 18-35) who reside in the following Districts: Amajuba, Harry Gwala, Ugu, iLembe, King Cetshwayo, Umzinyathi, Uthukela, Zululand, EThekwini, Umkhanyakude and Umgungundlovu Minimum Requirements:   A Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Accounting. The Program is a partnership initiative with Municipalities to promote the much-needed Digital Skilling in their respective communities.
