The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking for a strategic, dynamic, motivated and an energetic suitably qualified South African citizen to serve as the CFO of the entity.   REQUIREMENTS: Postgraduate qualification in Accounting or Finance (Level 8).  CA (SA) would be an added advantage. COMPETENCIES:  Minimum of 10 years financial management experience in the public sector of which at least 5 years should be at Senior Management level. RESPONSIBILITIES:  A chief financial officer (CFO) is the senior executive responsible for leading the financial actions of MKI. The CFO's responsibilities include audit and risk management, governance and compliance, financial planning, control, reporting, and any other necessary responsibility allowable by law. DURATION:  The incumbent to the above position will be offered a 5 Years Fixed-Term Performance-Based Contract, DPSA Grade 14. SUPPLY CHAIN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNER

The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint an Experiential Learner who is a South African Citizen looking to obtain workplace experience in Supply Chain Management.    Minimum Requirements:   Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Finance/Supply Chain or related NQF 6/7 qualification, 1 – 2 years relevant work experience in Supply Chain or Finance department. Research Practitioner: Maritime Development

The Institute is looking for two external members of the Moses Kotane Institute’s Research Ethics Committee.   Background:    The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) conducts business/action research that responds to the needs of the provincial economy. We are currently seeking for two experienced professionals to form part of the Research Ethics Committee. Minimum Requirements:        A doctoral qualification (we will take one with social science and another with applied science). Minimum of 3 years in serving as an Ethics Committee member for research purposes in tertiary institutions in KwaZulu-Natal. Have time available to attend meetings as and when required. Core competencies:                 Assessment skills, including the ability to analyse uncertainty. Process skills including the ability to facilitate, communicate and document. Interpersonal skills including the ability to listen and ask questions and foster effective communication amongst parties. In addition, have knowledge competencies including moral reasoning, understanding of policies and procedures, understand cultural dynamics and adhere to professional codes of ethics.  Role of the Committee:            To protect potential participants in research considering risks and benefits for the community in which research is carried out.   1. Provide Board members with guidance as to their duties, responsibilities, and powers.

  7. Provide proper induction, orientation, and ongoing training for Board members.
  8. Ensure that all terms of reference / committee charters are kept up to date.
  9. Draft yearly plans in consultation with the Chairperson of the Board.
  10. Ensure proceeding of the board and committee meetings are properly recorded, and that minutes are circulated as prescribed by the Act, after approval of the chairperson of the board or relevant board committee.
  11. Obtain appropriate responses and feedback to specific agenda items and matters arising from committee deliberations.
  12. Assist with yearly evaluation of the board, its individual directors and senior management.
  13. Provide information to internal and external auditors as may be requested from time to time.
  14. Perform any other tasks or attend any other meeting arising from Board deliberations.

Applications are invited for the 6 X positions of Independent Contractor: Data Collectors.     Background: The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint 6 (six) individuals for data collectors – independent contractor positions. The opportunity is limited to MKI bursary holders in line with the MKI Bursary Terms and Conditions.   Minimum Requirements & Competencies:    A Bachelor’s Degree in Economics or Statistics or Finance related at NQF Level 7; 01 – 02 years project co-ordination or research experience; ability to evaluate, verify, and edit research data; ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solve during the research project. Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel,); Preference will be given to graduates from the King Cetshwayo District. A driver’s licence will be an added advantage. Responsibilities:                     Carry out the data collection process in accordance with all reasonable instructions given by the MKI (i.e., sampling, availing data collection device); Collect Data with the level of care, skill, competence, diligence, and professional judgement.  Terms of Appointment:       The incumbent to the above position will be offered a 3 (three) day project specific Independent Contractor appointment with remuneration at R350.00 per day.   The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizen to provide services as an Independent Contractor: Lead Researcher.  The researcher will be responsible for conducting research and coordinating special research projects for KZN.   Minimum Requirements:      A SAQA recognised master’s degree in business, economics or related disciplines. Doctoral degree to be advantageous.   A minimum of 3-years relevant experience. A valid driver’s license and have access to own transport. Core Competencies:              Design a range of evaluations including formal quasi-experimental designs, mixed method evaluations, and operational evaluations; Identify evaluation opportunities and write proposals and develop budgets; write up research findings and oversee publication processes; lead the research process including research approvals; liaise with research clients ensuring that their research needs are clearly articulated and met; develop research standards and mentor junior researchers; maintain and enhance academic partnerships with academic institutions. The Institute is looking for two external members of the Moses Kotane Institute’s Research Ethics Committee.  

Background:   The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) conducts business/action research that responds to the needs of the provincial economy. We are currently seeking for two experienced professionals to form part of the Research Ethics Committee. Minimum Requirements:         A doctoral qualification (we will take one with social science and another with applied science). Minimum of 3 years in serving as an Ethics Committee member for research purposes in tertiary institutions in KwaZulu-Natal. Have time available to attend meetings as and when required. Core competencies:               Assessment skills, including the ability to analyse uncertainty. Process skills including the ability to facilitate, communicate and document. Interpersonal skills including the ability to listen and ask questions and foster effective communication amongst parties. In addition, have knowledge competencies including moral reasoning, understanding of policies and procedures, understand cultural dynamics and adhere to professional codes of ethics.  Role of the Committee:           To protect potential participants in research considering risks and benefits for the community in which research is carried out. Promote high ethical standards including respecting the dignity, rights, safety and well being of participants. Investigate issues that include misrepresentation, falsification, and fabrication of data, promote the truth to minimise error. Issue an ethical clearance report. Applications are invited for the position of the Research Ethics Committee Members based at La Mercy.  The successful applicants will be reporting to the Head of Research   Background:  The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is an Entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). Our mandate is to conduct world class research into skills development, and provincial strategic economic sectors; and to strategically lead in innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy. The Institution is looking for experienced and suitably qualified South African citizens to fulfil this responsibility. Preference will be given to applicants residing in Kwa Zulu Natal.   Purpose of the job:                 Through it’s Research and Development Unit the MKI seeks to conduct world class research. To this end it is critical that superior standards of research processes are maintained. The MKI Research Ethics Committee will be responsible for reviewing proposals and terms of references (TOR’s) that will address research ethical matters. Minimum Requirements:         Applicants must have a completed a PhD in Science/ Social Science/ Public Policy/ IT and other related fields. Five (5) years’ experience in conducting and reviewing research. Five (5) years’ experience in research ethics. Must have an impressive publication record (minimum of 5 peer reviewed journal articles). A Valid driver’s license & own transport. Remuneration:                        DPSA Level 13 (1) Duration:                                24 months contract Core competencies:               Excellent writing and communication skills. General professionalism in all areas. Responsibilities:                    The Moses Kotane Research Ethics Committee (REC) will be responsible for the following:
  • Ensure that the rights of research participants are always protected;
  • Ensure that the proposals are treated with respect and confidentiality;
  • Conduct a thorough review of the research Terms of References (ToRs; Conduct ethics review in a wholly independent and impartial manner without any conflicts of interest and with a focus clearly on the ethics of research proposals;
  • Where the REC feels that it does not have the expertise to review a proposal, it should seek the help of independent bodies or external members. RECs should ensure that they fulfil their role and responsibilities with integrity and record their decisions and feedback in a transparent manner.
