The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to secure the services of an experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizen to assist with – eThekwini Manufacturing Sector Study. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with research activities within the Econometrics and Statistical Service Unit at an Independent Contractor role. Minimum Requirements: Honours Degree in a business-related field Experience Minimum of 5 years’ experience in research with a strong focus on primary data collection. Experience with a previous manufacturing research project would be a distinct advantage Core Competencies: Survey design, survey co-ordination and administration, report writing at expert level, analysis of survey findings, compilation of Compounded Annual Growth Rates (CAGRs) in manufacturing sub-sectors, nodal scoping and presentation of findings to various audiences. Responsibilities: Conduct a survey of manufacturing firms in the eThekwini municipality to assess firm growth, performance, and competitiveness. Identify industrial nodes and conduct a review of the manufacturing activities in the industrial nodes of eThekwini. Identify challenges to growth and competitiveness of manufacturing firms within the identified industrial nodes.  Propose interventions and strategies to increase competitiveness and growth of the surveyed firms and the manufacturing sector in general. Propose manufacturing sub-sectors with latent potential and suitable for further investigations and within the eThekwini municipality. Terms of Appointment: The successful candidate will be offered a short-term contract (up to six weeks) on a DPSA Consultation fee rate: A.2.2 No Mark-up R384p/h – short term.   The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizen to fill the position of an Independent Contractor: Lead Researcher. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer the successful incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and executing urgent, strategic special research projects.   Minimum Requirements: Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, Public Administration, Sciences, Economic Development or any related fields from an accredited tertiary institution. (Being a Ph.D. candidate or holding a doctoral degree will be an advantage); At least three years’ overall experience in research (qualitative and quantitative); Proficient user of one of the following statistical software(Stata, R, Python). A Valid driver’s license and own or access to privately owned transport.   Core Competencies: Dynamic and highly committed to the work environment focused on making a positive impact. Ability to learn new methods and willingness to experiment and take risks. Must demonstrate initiative, drive and the ability to define research strategies from scratch.   Background:  The Moses Kotane Institute is looking to appoint suitably qualified KZN youth (between 18-35 years of age) to assist with data collection for research The Moses Kotane Institute is looking to appoint suitably qualified unemployed KZN graduates to collect data for research purposes. The opportunity will be aligned to different research projects from time to time during the contract period. Minimum Requirements: Data Collector: Minimum NQF Level 6. NQF Level 7 and above will be an added advantage. Data Collection Supervisor: Minimum NQF Level 9. NQF Level 10 will be an added advantage. Access to and ability to operate a smart mobile device. Terms of Appointment: NQF Level 6 - R323 per day, NQF Level 7- R461 per day, NQF Level 8 - R600 per day, NQF Level 9 - R738 per day, NQF Level 10 - R876 per day. Unemployed graduates will be part of a pool of graduates that will be assigned projects from time to time during the contract period. Graduates must indicate the ward in which they currently or mostly reside for ease of project allocation. Competencies: Computer Literacy (Microsoft word, excel), good communication skills, proficiency in English and isiZulu. A driver’s license older than 3 years will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities:

Data Collector:
  • Carry out the data collection process ethically and in accordance with all reasonable instructions given by the MKI (i.e., going door-to-door to collect information from individuals and/or households; utilise the work tools allocated for the data collection).

  • Supervise fieldwork of data
