Background: The Moses Kotane Institute is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), with a mandate to conduct world class research into training, skills development, and provincial strategies economic sections; to strategically lead innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy. It also coordinates interaction between line functions or sector departments established or envisage provincial government training institutions, tertiary institutions, and other external service providers. The institution is looking for the experienced and qualifying individuals to fulfil this new role. Persons with South African citizenship or residency and willing to relocate to KwaZulu-Natal are invited to apply.
Requirements: Master’s Degree with Economics or Econometrics and or Maritime with Economics. Doctoral Degree will be an added advantage. Driver’s license.
Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience performing Economics (and or Maritime) related duties at a Management Level.
Remuneration: DPSA Level 14
Duration 5 years (renewable based on performance)
Skills: Ability to deliver technical solutions based on the needs of the business. In-depth knowledge of the South African Government Socio-Economic strategies. Strategical and Practical Management Skills. Organisational and Planning Skills; good verbal and written communication skills, computer literate at an advanced level, particularly PowerPoint and Excel. Flexibility. Adaptability. Professional and Ethical conduct. Good Interpersonal Skills. Presentation and Report writing skills.

Responsibilities: Responsible for executive leadership, development of strategic and operational plans for the Unit which is mainly mandated with Research, Advisory, Training and Development services under the Maritime, Economics and Statistics arms of the institute. Ensuring that all finances, programs and policies, linked to the Unit mandate, are well planned, executed, results duly disseminated and archived.
