Background: The Moses Kotane Institute is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), with a mandate to research into diverse training and skills required to respond to the needs of the provincial economy, and to coordinate interaction between line functions or sector departments established or envisaged provincial government training institutions, tertiary institutions, and other external service providers. MKI does this by providing timely and accurate research to support the attainment of radically transformed, inclusive and sustainable economic growth for the province in partnerships with public and private sector. The institution is looking for the experienced and qualifying individuals to fulfill this new role. Applications are invited from South African Citizens, prepared to perform KwaZulu-Natal based research.

Requirements: Doctoral Degree in Business / Social sciences / ICT / Maritime.

Experience: 5 years’ relevant experience

Duration: Three years: Project specific

Specific Areas of Study: Agriculture, Informal Economy, Green Economy, Rural and Township Economy, Maritime, Innovation Ecosystem.

Skills: Excellent research project management, ability to use spreadsheet effectively, ability to manipulate and manage complex data and produce meaningful insights, work independently with minimal managerial supervision, good coordination skills, multi-tasking and work well under pressure, high attention to detail, good communication and administration skills, problem solving and goal oriented.

Responsibilities:

1. Draft research proposals and gain approval for research methodology prior to commencing research.
2. Source data and conduct relevant analysis of data
3. Provide the outcome of the research including a summary of the findings.
4. Make preliminary recommendations as a result of the research.
5. Develop benchmarks as a result of the research.
6. Suggest follow-up research as a result of research findings.
7. Present research finding on both internal and external platforms.
8. Consult with relevant publication agencies for publication of research.
