The Moses Kotane Institute (MKRI) is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government through the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) with a mandate to provide research and development services to support provincial development economic interventions. The Innovation Sub-unit within the Development unit of MKRI constantly required Intellectual Property Lawyers to assist the Innovators supported by the entity to protect their patents.
Having identified a skills gap in the legal fraternity in terms of Intellectual Property, particularly patents, the MKRI is availing a funding opportunity to the KwaZulu-Natal residents who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in Intellectual Property Law at any SAQA accredited South African institution. The purpose of this initiative is to increase the pool of Intellectual Property Legal Practitioners in the province.
